The Atlanta City Council is taking its message straight to constituents via social networking — an approach growing popular with local governments.

The council has launched Facebook and Twitter pages “in an effort to increase communication with the citizens of Atlanta,” city officials said. The networking sites will provide city residents with direct access to the latest news, updates, and municipal information.
