Top 10 bond counsel list sees major moves

The top bond counsel firms combined for a total of $292.177 billion in 6,406 transactions during the first three quarters of the year, down from the $343,709 billion in 9,139 deals over the same period in 2021.

Only three firms remained in the same spot at this point last year: Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, Kutak Rock and Norton Rose Fulbright. Bryant Rabbino and Butler Snow entered the top 10, while Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth and Gilmore & Bell were bumped further down in the top 20.

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe remains on top

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe retained the top spot. The firm worked on $32.562 billion in 283 deals for a market share of 11.1%, down from the $43.041 billion in 433 issues and 12.5% share of the market in the first three quarters of 2021.

Kutak Rock remained in second with $16.709 billion in 327 deals, or a 5.7% market share, from $18.696 million in 379 deals, or a 5.4% market share.

McCall Parkhurst & Horton rose in the rankings, as the firm has accounted for $13.609 billion in 300 deals for a 4.7% market share, going to third from sixth That compares to $10.830 billion in 338 deals for a 3.2% market share in 2021.

Norton Rose Fulbright came in fourth, counseling $12.543 billion in 196 deals, or a 4.3% market share, during the first three quarters this year, versus $13.380 billion in 249 deals, or a 3.9% market share, in 2021.

Nixon Peabody rose to fifth with $9.233 billion in 61 deals for a 3.2% market share during the first nine months of the year, compared to $9.971 billion in 95 deals for a 2.9% market share in 2021.

Rounding out the top 10 are: Hawkins Delafield & Wood in sixth with $8.565 billion in 184 deals; Bryant Rabbino followed with a total of $7.767 billion in 28 deals; Squire Patton Bonds was next with $7.493 billion in 83 deals; Chapman and Culter came after with $7.389 billion in 190 deals; and Butler Snow rounded out the top 10 with $7.379 billion in 72 deals.
