The Philadelphia Area Municipal Analysts Society is holding two public pension days on June 9 and July 13 exploring how issuers are addressing legacy costs.

The first PhAMAS pension day is slated for Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Janney Montgomery Scott's 20th floor conference center on 1717 Archer Street, Philadelphia and is highlighted by an early afternoon speech from Pennsylvania Auditor General Eugene DePasquale. Morning presentations will be given by Moody's Investors Service analysts Tom Aaron and Tim Blake as well Dr. Dan DiSalvo from City University of New York. Jay Himes and Jeff Ammerman from the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials are slated to speak at 2:15 p.m.

"Pensions are the most important issue, trend facing the municipal bond market [according to an April PNC survey] so we at PhAMAS thought it made sense to really put a focus on the topic for our members during some sessions this summer, " said Steve Winterstein, secretary of PhAMAS and chief municipal strategist at Wilmington Trust Advisors. "We are trying something different than in the past with these all-day sessions, but we thought it was worth it because of the importance analysts have placed on the topic."

The June 9 PhAMAS meeting is $20 for members and $75 for non-members. Assured Guaranty is the event's sponsor.
