The National Federation of Municipal Analysts approved the Philadelphia Area Municipal Analyst Society (PhAMAS) as its seventh charter society.

The NFMA Board of Governors voted Oct. 20 to approve the PhAMAS application. The current 30 members of PhAMAS will automatically become NFMA members Jan. 1.

PhAMAS held nine events since forming in late 2013. The organization’s officers include Tom Kozlik, president, managing director and municipal strategist at PNC; Ron Mintz, vice-president, principal at Vanguard; William Bonawitz, treasurer, director of municipal research at PNC Capital Advisors; and Stephen Winterstein, secretary, chief municipal strategist at Wilmington Trust Investment Advisors. Winterstein will represent the new society on the NFMA Board of Governors.

The NFMA was established in 1983 and includes nearly 1,400 members, mostly research analysts. Other charter societies in the NFMA include the Boston Municipal Analysts Forum, Chicago Municipal Analysts Society, Municipal Analysts Group of New York, the Southern Municipal Finance Society, the California Society of Municipal Analysts and the Minnesota Society of Municipal Analysts.
