GFOA Seeks Senior Associate For DC Office

WASHINGTON – The Government Finance Officers Association is seeking a new senior associate to engage in legislative and regulatory advocacy as part of the group's federal liaison center.

The job would require the associate to lead GFOA's coalition and grassroots advocacy efforts regarding public pensions, internet sales tax, federal preemption legislation, and healthcare reform. The associate would also support federal liaison center director Emily Brock on legislative and regulatory advocacy related to tax reform, infrastructure investment, and federal appropriations and budget legislation.

In addition to the advocacy portions of the job, the associate would staff one of GFOA's seven standing committees as well as the Women's Public Finance Network and the Black Caucus.

Other duties include leading the development of web resources for GFOA's website, serving as the liaison to the State and Local Legal Center, and working with other GFOA employees to implement the group's programs, including training, best practice development, member-to-member networking, and other GFOA strategic priorities.

The "ideal candidate" for the associate position, would have experience working either in state or local government finance, or advocating on the federal level on behalf of state and local government. The group is also looking for applicants to have exceptional writing, coalition building, and interpersonal skills.

Any applicant should have a fundamental understanding of issues facing state and local finance officers, preferably a working knowledge of federal legislative and regulatory processes, and strong research and writing skills. The applicants should also be well informed on the impact of federal legislation and regulation on state and local governments.
