Illinois Labor Wants Pension Summit

Unions that represent Illinois state employees want Gov. Pat Quinn and the General Assembly's leaders to join in on a "summit" slated for Feb. 11 to discuss pension reforms.

The coalition of unions known as We Are One Illinois issued out the invitation. The group has slammed several reform packages filed by lawmakers and floated its own proposal that calls for higher employee contributions and raising state revenue for pensions by ending some business tax breaks and imposing new taxes.

Standard & Poor's downgraded the state last week over the General Assembly's inability to enact reforms to chip away at $95 billion of unfunded obligations.
