WASHINGTON — The Securities and Exchange Commission announced Thursday that Matthew C. Solomon will be the new deputy chief litigation counsel in the division of enforcement, effective in June.
He will replace Mark Adler, and will oversee trial attorneys in 11 regional offices and the SEC's Washington-based trial unit, the commission said in a release.
Solomon, 39, joins the SEC from the Department of Justice, where he was an assistant U.S. attorney in the District of Columbia. Since 2010, he has been chief of the fraud unit, a post in which he supervised 25 prosecutors working on hundreds of security fraud cases and white-collar crimes.
"Matt is an experienced trial attorney who has won praise from the bench, the defense bar, and the prosecutorial community for his exceptional trial skills and sound judgment," Robert Khuzami, director of the SEC's enforcement division, said in the release. "Matt will be a welcomed addition to the SEC's talented and dedicated trial unit."
Earlier in his career, Solomon was a federal prosecutor in the public integrity section of the Justice Department's criminal division. He also worked as counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and a law clerk.
Solomon has a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and an undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University.
