Chapman and Cutler Adds Drillings to N.Y. Office

CHICAGO — Chicago-based law firm Chapman and Cutler LLP has hired public finance attorney Robert Drillings to staff the New York office and expand the firm’s municipal practice there as well as in New England and the mid-Atlantic region.

Drillings was previously at Akerman Senterfitt LLP, where he worked in the firm’s real estate practice.

He also was vice president and general counsel to the New York State Housing Finance Agency, and has been general counsel to the U.S. public finance and global infrastructure business groups of CIFG Assurance NA.

He was also a partner in the public finance office at Willkie Farr & Gallagher.

Chapman and Cutler has a total of 43 public finance attorneys, 35 of whom are located in the Chicago office. The Salt Lake City office has seven public finance attorneys, who also cover the San Francisco area.

Drillings is the firm’s only New York-based public finance attorney.

Drillings’ focus is on the public finance housing market, including the development and financing of governmentally assisted multifamily residential housing, financial guaranty insurance.

In the Midwest region, Chapman and Cutler ranked second among bond counsel for the first six months of the year, according to Thomson Reuters.
