A New Boss for MoDOT

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission recently named engineer Kevin Keith as director of the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Keith has served as interim director since April after Pete Rahn resigned to take a position with HNTB, a national transportation consulting firm. Keith has worked for MoDOT for more than 25 years, serving as a district engineer, then transportation planning director and chief engineer.

“Kevin Keith is a proven leader,” MHTC chairman Rudy Farber said in a statement. “He has been instrumental in the dramatic improvement of MoDOT and has been recognized for his innovative leadership at the national level. ”

In recent testimony before a legislative committee, Keith said the department must modify its operations as it has tapped all available funding. Spending will fall from an annual average of $1.25 billion in recent years to $500 million in the coming years.
