Consumer Sentiment Improves Slightly

The University of Michigan’s preliminary January consumer sentiment index reading was 61.9 compared to the final December 60.1 reading, the preliminary December 59.1 reading, and the final November 55.3 reading, according to market sources.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 59.0 reading.

The expectations index was 57.2 compared to 54.0 last month, 52.4 earlier in December, and 53.9 in November.

The current conditions index was 69.2 compared to 69.5 in December, 69.4 earlier in the month, 57.5 and in November.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 68.7 reading for the current conditions index and 54.0 for the expectations index.
