Interest Saves Park Project

The Tulsa suburb of Broken Arrow will be able to complete a park, thanks to interest earned on bond proceeds for the project.

Construction on a new nature center at the city’s Ray Harral Nature Park will begin soon.

The center was included in Broken Arrow’s 2004 bond package as a $585,000 project, but the city recently awarded a $700,000 construction contract for the facility.

City spokesman Keith Sterling said the interest earned by the bond fund will be enough to complete the project. The facility is expected to open in January 2009, a few months ahead of earlier estimates.

The 3,300-square-foot building will feature a 1,100-square-foot observation deck.
