SEC Names Rosalind Tyson, Marc Fagel as L.A., San Francisco Directors

The Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday announced the appointments of Rosalind Tyson and Marc Fagel as the directors of its Los Angeles and San Francisco regional offices, respectively.

Tyson, who has been at the SEC since 1982, has been acting regional director in Los Angeles since the departure of Randall Lee last year. During that time, she has overseen the office's lawsuit against five former San Diego officials for alleged securities fraud tied to the city's municipal bond offerings, as well as the commission's settlement with the independent San Diego auditor.

Fagel, who has been a member of the SEC's San Francisco enforcement staff since 1997, has been co-acting regional director with Daryl Hagel since Helane Morrison left last year. He previously served as associate regional director for enforcement.

The Los Angeles office oversees enforcement and examination in southern California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, and Guam, while the San Francisco office oversees the same functions in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest, as well as in Idaho and Montana.

Chairman Christopher Cox and Linda Chatman Thomsen, the director of the SEC's division of enforcement, praised the two appointments. Referring to Tyson, Thomson said: "For years, Roz has demonstrated her excellent judgment and strong management skills. Those attributes, combined with her wealth of SEC experience, make her an ideal choice to lead the Los Angeles office."

"Marc is a strong and energetic leader who is passionate about investor protection," Cox said. "His enthusiasm for our mission is contagious, and not only our entire team in San Francisco but investors across the nation are fortunate to have him in this leadership role. I look forward to continuing to work with him on behalf of investors."

Tyson graduated from Georgetown University's School of Languages and Linguistics in 1970. She received her master's degree in 1972 from the University of Hawaii and her law degree from Stanford in 1978.

Fagel graduated from Princeton University in 1988 and received his law degree from the University of Chicago in 1991.
