Zurlo started as co-head of municipal trading at the New York City-based woman-owned broker-dealer on Jan. 13 and reports to head of capital markets James Sampson, the firm said in a press release late Wednesday.

Prior to joining Lebenthal, Zurlo was a municipal trader at M.R. Beal & Co. and head of municipal trading and sales at Siebert Brandford Shank & Co. He previously worked at Loop Capital Markets and several other firms. He received a bachelor of science degree in economics from the State University of New York at Albany.

"His talents will significantly add to our institutional sales efforts," Alexandra Lebenthal, the firm's founder and chief executive officer, said in a release.

The firm's expansion since 2008 of its broker dealer and wealth management business includes MuniAxis, an online auction for institutional municipal bond sales that was launched in December, and Lebenthal Wealth Advisors, a new wealth management platform.

Both of those platforms are wholly-owned subsidiaries of Lebenthal Holding LLC.

In September 2013, Lebenthal added to its public finance division by hiring veteran Jacob "Jay" Alpert as senior managing director and head of sales. In December, 2012, William Ludolph, a 40-year veteran of the municipal market joined Lebenthal as head of municipal underwriting.
