U.S. government ran $42.9 billion deficit in July

The federal government ran a $42.9 billion deficit in July, the Treasury Department reported Thursday.

Outlays in July totaled $274.980 billion. Receipts totaled $232.040 billion.

In July 2016, the government ran a $112.8 billion deficit.

In June, the government ran a $90.2 billion deficit.

For the fiscal year to date, the government has a $566.0 billion deficit, compared to a $512.0 billion deficit for the similar period in fiscal 2016.
