U.S. Government Ran $107.1 Billion Deficit in August

The federal government ran a $107.1 billion deficit in August, the Treasury Department reported Tuesday.

The August deficit followed a $112.8 billion budget deficit in July.

Outlays in August totaled $338.438 billion. Receipts totaled $231.327 billion.

In August 2015, the government ran a $64.4 billion deficit.

For the fiscal year to date, the government has a $620.771 billion deficit, compared to a $529.960 billion deficit for the similar period on fiscal 2015.

The August deficit was smaller than the median $108.0 billion deficit predicted by economists polled by Thomson Reuters.
