UBS brings in three more public finance pros

UBS Wealth Management Americas announced three new senior hires as it continues to expand its public finance roster as the New Year approaches.

“As we continue to grow our municipal securities business in line with our 2019 strategy, it is with great pleasure we announce recent additions to our Public Finance team,” Peter Hill, head of public finance said in an internal memo that was obtained by The Bond Buyer. “We are confident that our new colleagues will help us to accelerate our momentum and further enhance our ability to serve both our issuer and investor clients.”

Ronald A. Stack joins UBS as a Managing Director in New York. He will work with the banking team to help build upon progress, leveraging an accomplished career in both the public and private sectors. Stack served as head of the public finance department at Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital and also had a career as a senior banker at firms including Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo. Additionally, he served under four governors as Chairman of the Nassau Interim Finance Authority. Stack also has experience as a management consultant and as an adjunct professor at both Columbia University and Fordham University.

He has been active in numerous industry activities including serving as a member and Chairman of the Municipal Executive Committee of The Bond Market Association, as well as a Chairman of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board. He received the Career Achievement Award from the Municipal Forum of New York in 2012. He is also the recipient of the Dean’s Award for Distinguished Achievement from Columbia University. Stack will report directly to Hill.

Mark Liff joined UBS as an Executive Director in the firms Higher Education group. He is based in New York, and reports to Sandra Kim, Managing Director and Head of the higher-ed group in the western region. Liff brings with him three decades of investment banking experience, most recently at J.P. Morgan, working with higher education and other not-for-profit borrowers nationally. His roster of education clients includes public, private and secondary institutions. He is also a former Ford Fellow, and a former adjunct professor at Columbia University.

Gary Garay, re-joined UBS as an Executive Director and will focus on governmental issuers across Florida and New England as well as housing clients nationally. He is based in Miami and reports to Tim Sullivan, Managing Director at UBS and former MassHousing chief. Garay brings 15 years of investment banking and quantitative analytical experience from UBS, Bank of America and J.P. Morgan, and has worked as senior manager with a vast array of issuers including general government, state revolving funds, transportation, education and housing credits. Throughout his career, Garay has participated in more than $20 billion of senior managed financings.

“Collectively, these talented professionals add the depth and breadth of client coverage that was among our strategic initiatives for 2019,” Hill said. “We look forward to adding their collective capabilities.”
