The Treasury Department estimated it will borrow $59 billion in the second quarter of 2015 and end with a $260 billion cash balance.
Earlier, treasury estimated a $7 billion paydown in the quarter, with a $150 billion cash balance on June 30.
"The increase in borrowing relates primarily to the increase in the end-of-quarter cash balance assumption partially offset by a decrease in the financing needs," Treasury said in a statement.
Treasury borrowed $141 billion in the first quarter, ending with a $100 billion cash balance, compared to its estimate of $155 billion in borrowing and a $100 billion cash balance.
Treasury estimates $66 billion in borrowing in the third quarter of 2015, ending with a $175 billion cash balance.
Details of the quarterly refunding will be announced Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time.
