Treasury Strips Up $768M in August

Newly issued Treasury securities held in stripped form increased about $768 million in August to a total of $223.442 billion, the Bureau of the Public Debt reported Wednesday.

Through the Separate Trading of Registered Interest and Principal of Securities program, STRIPS, about $12.906 billion of Treasury securities were reconstituted in August, down about $1.210 billion from $14.116 billion in July.

Securities eligible for stripping totaled $11.633 trillion in August, up about $127 billion from $11.505 trillion in July.

Some $11.409 trillion were held in unstripped form.

The STRIPS program allows investors to hold and trade the individual interest and principal components of eligible Treasury notes and bonds as separate securities.
