Treasury Strips Up $41M in Dec.

Newly issued Treasury securities held in stripped form increased about $41 million in December to a total of $233.866 billion, the Bureau of the Public Debt reported Friday.

Through the Separate Trading of Registered Interest and Principal of Securities program, STRIPS, about $16.679 billion of Treasury securities were reconstituted in December, down about $1.453 billion from $18.132 billion in November.

Securities eligible for stripping totaled $11.659 trillion in December, down about $54 billion from $11.713 trillion in November.

Some $11.425 trillion were held in unstripped form.

The STRIPS program allows investors to hold and trade the individual interest and principal components of eligible Treasury notes and bonds as separate securities.
