Treasury Strips Fall $1.596B in March

Newly issued Treasury securities held in stripped form decreased about $1.596 billion in March to a total of $214.596 billion, the Bureau of the Public Debt reported Wednesday.

Through the Separate Trading of Registered Interest and Principal of Securities program, STRIPS, about $14.295 billion of Treasury securities were reconstituted in March, off about $2.532 billion from $16.826 billion in February.

Securities eligible for stripping totaled $11.485 trillion in March, up about $54 billion from $11.430 trillion in February.

Some $11.270 trillion were held in unstripped form.

The STRIPS program allows investors to hold and trade the individual interest and principal components of eligible Treasury notes and bonds as separate securities.
