WASHINGTON — The American Public Power Association's board of directors has appointed Sue Kelly to become the group's new president and chief executive officer on April 1.
Kelly, the APPA's general counsel and senior vice president for policy analysis, will succeed Mark Crisson who is retiring from the group after serving as its leader for almost seven years.
Kelly has been at the APPA since 2004 and has extensive experience as an attorney dealing with federal regulation, the APPA said in a release.
"Sue Kelly is an exceptional leader with a demonstrated commitment to public power," said Gary Stauffer, chair of the APPA board and executive director of NMPP Energy in Lincoln, Neb. "Her extensive industry knowledge, strong interpersonal skills, and record of achievement have earned her the respect of APPA's membership, her industry colleagues and federal regulators. The board of directors looks forward to working with Sue and has every confidence that she will successfully lead APPA and its members through the challenges that lie ahead."
Before joining APPA she worked at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and two law firms here — Miller, Balis and O'Neil, P.C. and Crowell and Moring. She received a B.A. from the University of Missouri and a law degree from The George Washington University Law School.
APPA, created in 1940 as a nonprofit, non-partisan group and based here, represents the nation's more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities that collectively serve more than 47 million Americans.
