Hutchinson will work in the firm's Tax Strategy & Benefits practice group in New York and will focus on complex tax issues relating to public finance.

He has acted as tax counsel to a wide range of players in all types of state and local debt in the United States and been involved in major infrastructure financing projects across the country.

"We're delighted to have Johnny join the partnership," Bernhard Gilbey, head of the Tax Strategy and Benefits practice at Squire Patton Boggs, told The Bond Buyer in an email. "Public finance tax is a complex area of law that is central to the U.S. bond markets because of the critical importance of the 'tax free' nature of those debt instruments. We've worked hard to build a market-leading team advising in this area, with a long, proud history of advising governmental, nonprofit and for-profit borrowers, as well as underwriters and financial advisors.

"Johnny is an integral part of that team," Gilbey said. "He has distinguished himself as an outstanding tax practitioner, bond counsel and a much sought-after client advisor because of his in-depth market knowledge and technical skills."

In addition to serving as bond counsel for issuers, Hutchinson's experience includes structuring transactions to satisfy requirements for tax-advantaged debt; and advising commercial and investment banking institutions that purchase or underwrite the debt of borrowers and provide credit enhancement and derivative products related to debt issuances.
