Small business optimism fell in March, as measured by the Index of Small Business Optimism, which dipped to 92.6 from 92.9 in February, according to the National Federation of Independent Business.
"Small business owners remain extremely pessimistic about the economy, and rightfully so," said NFIB Chief Economist William C. Dunkelberg. "Cost-increasing regulations seem to multiply overnight and there is no clear end in sight."
The March reading “slid below the lowest reading in two years and is well below the 42-year average of 98.”
The index was at 100 in December 2014. Dunkelberg says “a recession warning signal is flashing and that next month's survey could determine whether or not the alarm should be rung.”
