Rupanil Jain was drawn to public finance by the intersection of financial markets, public policy and politics.
During a college internship after her freshman year, she was struck by the dedication and sense of purpose of the bankers alongside whom she worked. Then, while studying abroad in London as Brexit unfolded, she witnessed firsthand how public policy decisions could ripple through financial markets and economies around the world.
Those experiences confirmed that public finance was where she wanted to build her career.
Rupi started in Citi's public finance group before joining Huntington two-and-a-half years later, where she continues to advise public-sector clients on complex financings. "Public finance is a perfect fit," Rupi says. "I get to work with incredibly passionate people to solve complex financial challenges that ultimately make people's lives better."
The tangible impact of her work became clear early in her career. While at Citi, she worked on a financing for Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Although it wasn't her largest transaction, touring the terminal left a lasting impression.
Inspired by the women she met at her first National Women in Public Finance conference, Rupi joined the board of the Chicago chapter as its youngest member and now serves as the chapter's chief marketing officer. In 2024, she was recognized with the Claire Goodman Rising Star Award, honoring her leadership and contributions to the profession.
Rupi thrives in a constantly shifting environment that challenges her to continue to learn, adapt and think creatively. But she also thrives in the tight-knit public finance community. "We are all working together to help clients access the capital they need to invest in our collective future," she says. "I'm proud of how tangible our impact is."
