Puerto Rico's unemployment rate continued to decline in May, dropping to 13.8% from 14.1% in April.
However, the number of people employed was also down, according to the latest statistics.
The drop was the fifth consecutive month that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. The rate hit 15.5% in December.
While the rate went down in May so did the seasonally adjusted level of employment, which was down 0.5% from April. The seasonally adjusted number of unemployed fell 3.3%.
The seasonally adjusted number of employed went down 5,427 and the seasonally adjusted number of unemployed went down 5,381.
The May unemployment rate was the lowest in 11 months. The number of unemployed workers was the lowest it has been in almost six years.
