The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics said Monday that the seasonally adjusted July unemployment rate in the commonwealth was 13.1%.

The bureau's household survey showed that employment slipped 0.18% from June. On the other hand, the bureau's survey of private sector and government employers showed that employment was up 0.3% from June. Both figures include seasonal adjustments.

The bureau's July household survey indicated that the number of unemployed declined 0.5%.

The employer survey showed July unemployment fell 0.6% from a year earlier.

Advantage Business Consulting President Vicente Feliciano has said gains in the private sector employer survey employment year over year have been a sign of a strengthening economy. This data was up year-over-year for eight consecutive months through June. However, in July the number was even compared to July 2013.
