It was the third straight month the index had gained on a month-to-month basis and the second consecutive month it had gone up on year-over-year basis.

The index is based on four economic measures. In October, total non-farm payroll employment increased 0.5% from a year earlier. Gasoline consumption also increased 0.4%.

However, electric power generation declined 1.4% and cement sales went down 14.4%, compared with October 2014.

The improving economic activity index values follow generally good employment news in Puerto Rico in the last several months. The household survey of the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics has shown employment has gone up for four consecutive months.
