WASHINGTON - Industrial production increased 0.2% in September after the number was revised to unchanged in August from a previously reported 0.2% gain, the Federal Reserve reported Monday.
The September increase was right on target with the gain projected by economists polled by Thomson Reuters.
For the third quarter as a whole, industrial production rose at an annual rate of 5.1%, the Fed reported.
Capacity utilization rose slightly to 77.4%, after rising to a revised 77.3% in August.
The September increase was below the 77.5% projected by economists polled by Thomson Reuters.
Manufacturing output moved up 0.4% after gaining a revised 0.3% in August.
Output from utilities fell 1.8% after declining a revised 2.9% in August.
