WASHINGTON - Industrial production increased 0.8% in March while capacity use rose to 77.4%, the Federal Reserve reported Friday.
Industrial production increased 0.1% in February, revised higher from a 0.1% decline reported last month.
Capacity utilization in February was 76.9%, revised up from 76.3%.
Economists expected industrial production would increase 0.6% for the month and for capacity utilization to be 77.4%, according to the median estimate from Thomson Reuters.
Manufacturing output advanced 0.7% in March, its fourth consecutive month of strong expansion; factory production climbed at an annual rate of 9.1% in the first quarter, the Fed said.
