Preliminary June U. of Mich. Index at 81.2 vs. 81.9 in May

The University of Michigan's preliminary June consumer sentiment index reading was 81.2, compared to the final May 81.9, the preliminary May 81.8, and the final April 84.1, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 72.2, compared to the final May 73.7, the preliminary May 73.2, and 74.7 in the final April reading.

The current conditions index was 95.4, compared to the final May 94.5, the preliminary May 95.1, and 98.7 in the final April reading.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 83.0 reading for the main index, 95.7 for current conditions and 74.6 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.8% in May, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.0%, compared to 3.3% in May.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
