Preliminary Feb. U. of Mich. Index at 95.7 vs. 98.5 in Jan.

The University of Michigan's preliminary February consumer sentiment index reading was 95.7, compared to the final January 98.5, and the preliminary January 98.1, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 85.7, compared to the final January 90.3, and the preliminary January 88.9.

The current conditions index was 111.2, compared to the final January 111.3, and the preliminary January 112.5 and the final December 111.9.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 97.8 reading for the main index, 89.0 for expectations and 110.7 for current conditions.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.5%, compared to 2.6% in January, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.8%, compared to 2.6% in January.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
