Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter has been honored by the Association of Government Accountants.

The AGA gave Nutter its 2015 Excellence in Government Leadership award at the National Leadership Training Awards Luncheon in Washington, D.C.

The Philadelphia mayor was recognized for producing balanced budgets and streamlining the city's financial agencies. The organization also noted his introduction of performance based budgets, making high-value data available to the public, increasing delinquent tax collection and attracting new businesses.

"Leadership is about a willingness to make the tough decisions, the ability to address complicated problems, and the best interest of your constituents at the heart of every choice you make," said Mayor Nutter in a statement. "I want to thank the Association of Government Accountants for recognizing the work of our administration in financial management leadership."

Mayor Nutter credited his administration for the award including Finance Director Rob Dubow, Budget Director Rebecca Rhynhart, City Treasurer Nancy Winkler and Alan Greenberger, deputy mayor for economic development.
