Online job postings creep up, on west, northeast gains

About 4,903,300 online job postings appeared on leading internet job boards in January, an increase of 1,200 from December, the Conference Board reported Wednesday.

“The December Supply/Demand rate stands at 1.34 unemployed for each advertised vacancy, with a total of 1.7 million more unemployed workers than the number of advertised vacancies,” the Conference Board said in a release. “The number of unemployed was approximately 6.6 million in December.”

“In January, online labor demand grew in 28 states, declined in 21 state, and was constant in 1 state,” the release said. “Two regions experienced increases and two experienced decreases.”

The West saw a 13,400 rise and the Northeast grew by 5,100, while the Midwest fell 7,400 and the South declined 4,500.

In the U.S. there were 1.34 ads per 100 people, up from 1.25 in December.
