N.Y. City Bus Rapid Transit Up for Discussion

The New York Transit Museum will host a discussion on plans for bus rapid transit expansion in New York City's outer boroughs at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10.

The museum is at Boerum Place and Schermerhorn Street in downtown Brooklyn. The museum and the Streetsblog website are sponsoring the free event.

Design and implementation of new routes will be up for discussion.

Speakers will be Sarah Wyss, senior director for bus service planning at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's New York City Transit division; Eric Beaton, director of transit development at the city's Department of Transportation; and Joan Nyron, policy director at the Pratt Center for Community Development. Ben Fried, Streetsblog editor-in-chief, will moderate the event.

The MTA is one of the largest municipal issuers with $34 billion in debt.

Changing outer-borough demographics were a major talking point during July meetings of the MTA's Transportation Reinvention Commission, which Gov. Andrew Cuomo formed.
