Bond Buyer conference to highlight 2019 market predictions

The Bond Buyer’s National Outlook Conference in New York next week focuses on everything from interest rates and infrastructure financing to fiscal policy and the implications of tax reform.

Experts from every corner of the industry will discuss their 2019 predictions and outlook for policy, market climate, economics, regulatory developments, technology, pension funding, among other topics.

Held Tuesday at the Metropolitan Club New York, the event will kick off with welcome remarks from Michael Ballinger, publisher of The Bond Buyer, as well as Jeanny Pak, head of Northeast municipal finance for UBS Financial Services Inc., and Howard Zucker, partner at Hawkins, Delafield & Wood LLP.

Topics include policy changes ahead, current regulatory developments; replacing LIBOR; as well as keeping pension funding current and tackling unfunded liabilities.

Opportunities in the coming year will be discussed by heads of public finance, including Zucker, who is co-chair of the event; Chris Fink, managing director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch; Angelina Schmidt, managing director of the underwriting syndicate at UBS Financial Services; Robert Spangler, co-head of municipal finance at RBC Capital Markets, and Daniel Tomson, managing director and co-head of public finance at Citi.

On the technology front, presenters will address municipal data and technology developments as they relate to curves and indices, as well as climate change and cybersecurity as it relates to fundamentals and disclosure aspects.

Meanwhile, the luncheon keynote speaker will be Gerrard Bushell, president and chief executive officer of the New York State Dormitory Authority.

In addition, there will be a buy-side/sell-side panel, as well as a “Fireside Chat” with John Hallacy, contributing editor and program manager of The Bond Buyer, and Michael S. Hanson, director and head of global macro strategy at TD Securities, who will discuss the “Optics of Economics.”

During the conference, attendees will participate in a live market survey, and mingle with colleagues and industry professionals during a networking reception that will conclude the event.
