Lockhart Says Three Hikes Possible This Year

It is possible the Federal Open Market Committee will raise interest rates three times this year, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta President Dennis Lockhart said in an interview  published Thursday.

"I would not rule out more than two" rate hikes this year, Lockhart told the Nikkei Asian Review. "I just think there's still scope for three increases this year. I do not expect four increases, but I think there is scope for three."

He said a rate hike “may be justified” at either of the next two FOMC meetings, but wouldn’t commit to either and said even if data is “good,” an FOMC move in April “will not be mandatory.”
