Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said he plans to hold a summit next month for local government officials to discuss challenges facing Michigan municipalities.
The summit, scheduled for Dec. 7, will cover falling property values, the importance of multi-year budgets, the impact of state budgets on local governments, and controlling employee benefit costs.
Officials will present revenue forecast figures. The county has a full-time staff devoted to forecasting tax revenue, according to the Detroit Free Press.
“We have a macro view of what’s happening, and we want to share that,” Patterson was quoted as saying. “I don’t think we’ve come close to hitting the bottom of our economic collapse. I think it’s going to get much worse the next two years.”
Regional city leaders and a range of county officials have been invited.
