LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles officials unveiled the results of a three-year, $230 million renovation of Los Angeles International Airport's Terminal 5 June 10.

The renovations, part of the city's $8 billion overhaul of the airport, began in 2006.

"We're fast on our way to becoming the airline of choice in Los Angeles by understanding what moves L.A. - its most prominent industries, its most desired destinations, and its discerning customers' required amenities for travel," said Delta President Ed Bastian. "Our investments in T5 now offer Angelenos a more premium airport experience, from check-in to take-off."

The airport's multi-billion-dollar capital improvement project is expected to end in 2019. The LAX modernization program consists of more than 20 individual projects and is considered to be the largest public works program in the city's history.

The centerpiece of the program is the new Tom Bradley International Terminal project, which includes new aircraft gates and concourse areas, and a Great Hall for premier dining and retail. Additionally, there are several major airfield and facility projects underway, including a new Central Utility Plant, new taxiways and taxi lanes, and renovations to other terminals.

The Delta refurbishment in Terminal 5 includes four additional security screening points, an expanded ticketing lobby, and a new baggage claim. The upgrades are focused on improving the customer experience and enabling passengers to get in and out of the airport quicker.

"This investment by Delta Air Lines is the latest in our now more than $8 billion overhaul of LAX," Garcetti said. "I am thrilled that Delta is growing its presence here in Los Angeles."

The LAX Modernization Program is funded by LAX operating revenue, terminal concession revenue, airline fees, and airport revenue bond proceeds.
