CHICAGO -- KeyBanc Capital Markets Inc. has hired Mark Fisher to serve as a managing director in its public finance group, overseeing business in Ohio and Michigan.

Fisher joins the firm from Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. Before that, he was at Wachovia Securities, which in 2006 acquired A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc.

He has worked in public finance for 30 years, according to the firm.

"Mark is one of the most well-respected and experienced public finance bankers in the Midwest," said Derek Chauvette, KeyBanc's executive vice president and head of the public sector and public finance groups, in a statement. "He is the ideal addition to our public finance team as we increase our presence and focus in Ohio and Michigan."

Fisher will manage a team focused on business development in the two states. His focus is in structuring debt deals for large local governments and state of Ohio issuers, the firm said.

He will be based in Cleveland and report to Chauvette.

Cleveland-based KeyBanc Capital Markets is the broker-dealer subsidiary and investment banking arm of KeyCorp.

The firm was the 36th largest municipal bond underwriter from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30 of 2012.
