BRADENTON, Fla. – Kentucky Gov.-elect Matt Bevin has appointed public finance attorney Scott Brinkman as secretary of the Executive Cabinet.

Brinkman, a state representative from 2001 to 2010, chairs the public finance practice in the Louisville office of Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC.

He is also co-chair of the law firm's business services practice focusing on corporate finance and lending.

"Scott has a proven track record in the General Assembly and private sector," said Bevin, a Republican, who will be sworn in Dec. 8. "He brings the right leadership qualities to effectively manage the Executive Cabinet and build the consensus we need to move our agenda forward."

As Executive Cabinet secretary, Brinkman will develop and implement the major program policies for the executive branch. He will also oversee the administration of the various state agencies and coordinate the governor's legislative policies.

Brinkman has served as bond counsel for issuers in sectors that include education, health care facilities and hospitals. His practice includes corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial real estate.

Brinkman, 60, received a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.

Bevin succeeds term-limited Gov. Steve Beshear, a Democrat.

After winning the Nov. 3 election with 52.5% of the vote, Bevin will be only the second GOP governor in the Bluegrass state over the last 40 years.
