Kansas Revenues Slip

Kansas October general fund revenues of $477 million were 7% less than expected, but Revenue Secretary Nick Jordan said the drop was due to a calendar quirk. Collections should rebound in November, he said.

“This is a slight dip that is more a reflection that Kansas had fewer withholding periods in October 2012 compared to October 2011 than a struggling economy,” Jordan said.

There were three collection periods in October 2011 but only two last month, he said.

Collections had been forecast at $514 million. Revenue in the first four months of fiscal 2013 of almost $2 billion is $20 million below anticipated levels but $91 million more than the same period of fiscal 2012.
