Title: Director
Firm: Fitch Ratings
Age: 32
In July, Jennie Mu celebrated her 10-year anniversary at Fitch Ratings.
Since joining Fitch in 2016, Jennie has been promoted four times, reflecting both her exceptional analytical ability and her growing leadership within the municipal bond market.
She is now a director on Fitch Ratings' U.S. public finance municipal infrastructure team and the analytical lead for seaports, covering some of the largest and most prominent ports in the U.S., including the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. She also co-manages Fitch's airports and seaports coverage, the team's largest asset class, comprising more than 100 credits.
As head of seaports, Jennie has played a central role in sustaining Fitch's leadership in the transportation sector through strong market commentary, sector outlooks, and peer studies. "I have always found the transportation sector interesting because so many dynamics affect it, like policy decisions, economic trends, international trade flows and supply chains. There's so much to it," says Jennie.
Despite the intricacy, Jennie has a knack for analyzing highly complex and unconventional credits. "She has a rare talent for breaking down complicated issues and explaining them clearly to the market, making difficult subjects accessible without losing analytical rigor. That combination of technical depth and clear communication is a hallmark of her work," says Scott Monroe, a senior director and sector lead for Fitch's U.S. public finance municipal infrastructure group.
Jennie earned her bachelor's degree from Cornell University, majoring in economics and China and Asia Pacific studies, which led her to intern one semester in Washington, D.C., at the U.S. Trade Representative's office. It was through that internship that she learned of Fitch's summer analyst program and was immediately drawn to the work.
When Jennie is not working, you can find her traveling the world.
