Initial jobless claims climbed 19,000 to 346,000 in the week ended January 25, the Labor Department said Thursday.
Claims for the week ended January 18 were revised up to 329,000 from the initially reported 326,000.
Continuing jobless claims were 2.991 million in the week ended January 18, down from the downwardly revised 3.007 million the week before, first reported as 3.056 million.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters expected 330,000 initial and 3.020 million continuing claims.
The four-week average of initial claims rose 750 in the week ended January 25 to 333,000.
