Initial jobless claims dropped 2,000 to 339,000 in the week ended December 28, the Labor Department said Thursday.
Claims for the week ended December 21 were revised up to 341,000 from the initially reported 338,000.
Continuing jobless claims were 2.833 million in the week ended December 21, down from the upwardly revised 2.931 million the week before, first reported as 2.923 million.
The four-week average of initial claims rose 8,500 in the week ended December 28 to 357,250.
