Final March U. of Mich. Index at 80.0 vs. 81.6 in Feb.

The University of Michigan's final March consumer sentiment index reading was 80.0, compared to the preliminary March 79.9, and the final February 81.6, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 70.0, compared to 69.4 earlier in March, and 72.7 in February.

The current conditions index was 95.7, compared to 96.1 earlier in March, and 95.4 in February.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 80.5 reading for the main index, 96.3 for current conditions and 70.2 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.9% in February, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.2%, compared to 3.2% in February.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
