The University of Michigan's final April consumer sentiment index reading was 84.1, compared to the preliminary April 82.6, and the final March 80.0, according to market sources.
The expectations index was 74.7, compared to 73.3 earlier in April, and 70.0 in March.
The current conditions index was 98.7, compared to 97.1 earlier in April, and 95.7 in March.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 83.0 reading for the main index, 97.1 for current conditions and 73.3 for expectations.
The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.9% in March, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.2%, compared to 3.2% in March.
The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
