February CPI Rises 0.4%; Core Rate Increases 0.2%

The February consumer price index was disappointingly high at plus 0.4% overall and up 0.2% at the core, a bit worse than the Street expected.

Overall CPI rose 0.2% higher over the year, and the core increased 1.8%, a little higher than in January.

Core was boosted by apparel at plus 1.3% as both men’s and women’s clothing rose in price, new vehicles at plus 0.8%, drugs at plus 0.6%, tobacco at plus 0.7%, and recreation at plus 0.4%.
