Only five years into her public finance career, Erin Lennon is already helping shape the next generation of professionals.
Through Assured Guaranty's internship mentorship program, Erin helps interns with everything from reviewing resumes to interview preparation and encouraging them to explore careers in the field. "Most people don't set out to work in public finance," Erin says. "But once they discover it, they realize how exciting it can be. I love sharing my passion for the industry with them."
Erin also organizes networking and educational events, including the firm's annual summer intern career fair, which brings interns and professionals from across the organization together to network.
Erin is a member of Assured Guaranty's Women's Employee Resource Group, helping organize the firm's annual International Women's Day conference. In addition to leadership and professional workshops, the event features engagement with accomplished women from a wide range of industries.
It's fitting that Erin mentors others since her own path into public finance began as an intern at Assured Guaranty. She fell in love with the analytical process and joined the firm's U.S. Public Finance Surveillance team after graduation. Today, she serves as the lead analyst for California credits.
Erin's favorite part of the job is meeting directly with issuers. "You learn so much more talking with people than by simply reading an audit," she says. "Understanding their challenges, accomplishments, and decision-making gives you a much deeper appreciation of the credit."
"Seeing an issuer rebuild its reserves, strengthen its financial position and get back on track is incredibly rewarding," she adds.
While she's already giving back to the industry, Erin invests in her own growth as well. She is completing her MBA at Fordham University while building her career in public finance and looks forward to deepening her expertise.
