WASHINGTON – The U.S. third quarter employment cost index rose 0.4% for overall compensation costs to civilian workers, while the index rose 1.5% for the 12-month period ending in September 2009, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics released this morning.
The 0.4% gain for the third quarter followed a 0.4% uptick for the previous quarter. For the 12-month period ending in June 2009, the index rose 1.8%.
The quarterly gains represented the median of estimates by economists polled by IFR Markets.
