Public finance wasn't part of Elizabeth Kim's original career plan. As an undergraduate, she was on the pre-med track until an internship at the Michigan Finance Authority prompted her to switch her major to finance.

Unsure where a finance degree would lead, Liz explored several career options, including private banking and management consulting. Yet she kept returning to public finance, drawn by the positive experience she had during her internship and the opportunity to work on projects with lasting community impact.

Over the past 10 years at Loop Capital, Liz has served on senior-managed or joint book-running transactions totaling more than $18 billion in par value. While much of her work has focused on healthcare and issuers across the Midwest, Liz has also advised clients including the city of Chicago and the Illinois Tollway Authority.

What Liz values most is seeing the tangible difference these financings make. Her work has supported high-yield project financings for proton and radiation oncology centers, osteopathic medical schools, and micro hospitals that bring much-needed healthcare services to rural communities.

One transaction stands out in particular. Financing for the Aurora Integrated Oncology Foundation in Alaska proved so successful that the model has since expanded to the lower 48 states, helping make advanced cancer care more accessible to patients across the country.

"I love being able to make an impact on our communities and improve patient care," Liz says.

That mission is deeply personal. Her father is a cancer survivor, giving her work supporting oncology projects even greater meaning.

Liz is both proud of — and pleasantly surprised by — the career she's built. "I really enjoy working with incredibly smart people who are also kind and supportive," she says. "When I moved to Chicago at 25, I wasn't sure I'd find my place. Now I love the city, the community, and the career I've built."
